Ms. Musrefa Hossain, CEO, GD Hospital & Diabetic Institute stated that "In GD Hospital and Diabetes Institute we have pledged to 'Care for Life.' So we want to tell everyone - Haato Bangla Haato - Walk Bengal Walk. It is our belief that great evils can be dispelled with a single step just as the Mahatma showed us decades ago with the Dandi march. Haato Bangla Haato was conceived three years ago as an awareness campaign to commemorate the event of World Diabetes Day which was celebrated internationally on 14th November. To initiate the simple step of taking one step at a time towards a healthy tomorrow. Walking is our greatest tool in this fight to eradicate diabetes from our lives. It is imperative to create awareness in all age groups and sections of the society that the simple task of walking is the most essential antidote to this debilitating disease. The campaign has now gained added momentum after GD Hospital and Diabetes Institute received "Best Public Initiative of the Year" award by the World Health and Wellness Congress this March in Taj Lands' End Hotel, Mumbai."
This year the walkathon is planning to reach to other districts too. A similar event will take place in Buniadpur of South Dinajpur on 24th November and Aurangabad of Murshidabad on 25th November for a comprehensive growth.
Apart from this walkathon, the hospital will also be launching a mobile Diabetes Checkup 'Heal on Wheels' campaign across the city. This mobile Diabetes Care vehicle will move around the city and will conduct vitals scan, free tests. The only motto is to try to create cognizance in identifying, managing and eradicating diabetes.
