West Bengal Government School Curriculum Includes Lessons on Curbing Obesity
West Bengal Government has now become certain to confront one of the most serious health problems among children. The most panic-stricken health disease these days is obesity. It is affecting many children in this day and age. Not only in our state or country, but it is also a major issue all over the country.
In a really beholden move, the State Education Department has finally thought of introducing proper lessons on reducing obesity in the school curriculum. It will not only be just theory, but the practical facet of the difficulty will also be taken care of. There will be regular checkups in the form of habitually measuring certain strictures like blood sugar, blood pressure, and body weight. We all are aware of the fact that these symptoms are eventually sharing an intimate relation with obesity.
An imperative lesson that will be taught regularly in the schools is that obesity is not genetic or hereditary but is actually the result of food habits. Some of which are often brought down from generation to generation and some of which are developed.
These said strictures would have to be frequently measured in school students, the gadgets for which would be bought by the schools from funds provided by the department especially for meeting this purpose. The teachers will be in the long run guided in conducting tests and using these instruments in the most effective method.
According to a department official, the disbursal of funds has by now on track. It is allotted that Rs. 3,000 will be given to each for primary schools, Rs 7,000 is set for upper primary schools and Rs 10,000 is fixed for secondary and higher secondary schools.
The devices to be bought are skinfold calipers for determining the state of obesity weighing machines, sphygmomanometer and stethoscope for measuring blood pressure, and glucometer for gauging blood sugar.
The concerned teachers would be given lessons by trained physicians on using the instruments. They would be taught the influence of factors like blood sugar, blood pressure, and others related physical problems. It is necessary to prevent obesity through controlling today's food habits with regular exercising, including doing meditation and yoga. The students along with their parent will be given proper guidance on these issues so that the future generation stays in the pink and fit.
