Uttarbanga Utsav to Be Inaugurated on January 22 by CM
In recent years after the change in government, the cultural aspects of West Bengal have drastically changed and this has given birth to a number of new artists. This initiative has made her more favourite to the people of West Bengal. However, she is thinking business in all these as finances grow pretty well in these respects.
Hon'ble Chief Minister of West Bengal Smt. Mamata Banerjee will be inaugurating the annual Uttarbanga Utsav on 22nd January, 2019, in Siliguri. She is also scheduling to attend Netaji Subash Chandra Bose's birth anniversary remembrance in Darjeeling on 23rd January 2019.
Every year, Uttarbanga Utsav is celebrated in North Bengal putting forward the local artists and folk artists of almost eight districts in West Bengal. Meritorious students from North Bengal are given felicitation and Bongo Ratna awards are given to one person each from the eight districts.
This year, according to the plan, 10 meritorious students from each of the 8 districts will be given proper honour. Along with this, 10 meritorious students from the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) area will also be honoured and felicitated. The students will collect a cheque of Rs 10,000/- each along with certifications as prize money. The Bongo Ratna recipients will receive Rs. 1 lakh each along with certifications.
This is a weeklong programme and the festival will be held in all eight districts. The interesting part of this year is more venues have been encompassed in the festival this time. In the year 2018, there were nine venues throughout North Bengal. This year, there will be together 17 venues. The decision is apt because a single district will not be the solitary focus.
"The focus will be on tribal culture and tradition," stated North Bengal Development minister Rabindranath Ghosh. The minister held an assessment meeting at Uttarkanya, the state Secretariat in North Bengal on 31st December 2018. The District Magistrates of all eight districts were asked to attend the meeting along with other administrative top brass.
Ghosh added that "Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will initiate the Utsav on January 22. The inauguration ceremony will take place at Kanchenjunga stadium in Siliguri. She will then pay an official visit to Darjeeling where she is planning to attend Netaji-Jayanti at the Chowrasta organized by the State Government".
