Maize Cultivation to Be Boosted by West Bengal Government
Maize not only has a lot of commercial value but also huge health benefits. Keeping this fact in mind, the West Bengal Government has took initiative to raise maize cultivation from the current 15 lakh metric tonnes (MT) per year to 20 lakh MT in two years’ time.
Very few of us know that Maize is an important element of poultry feed, for making biofuels and in processing food . Maize is also used to make the shell of capsules, starch and as part of the food processing industry. It helps in making pudding, sauce, gravy, pies, etc.
The current production has improved with respect to 2011, when the present Government came to power. From 3 lakh MT per annum it has now drastically risen to 15 lakh MT.
The additional stress on improving the maize production comes won the Krishi Karman Award this year for the huge improvement in maize production in the country.
